The AI Institutes Virtual Organization (AIVO) recently launched a new special interest group (SIG) for Foundational AI and Machine Learning. The SIG's inaugural event was a networking lunch for the AI Institutes community and invited industry partners at NeurIPS 2025. In 2026, the group looks forward to new collaborations and activities.
The Foundational AI/ML SIG supports convenings and collaborations, virtual and in-person, for researchers who are involved with foundational AI and/or machine learning research. While all institutes in some way utilize AI/ML, researchers in this SIG focus on foundational methods and novel application of those methods to domain-centric research problems. Those interested should join the Slack Channel. AI Institutes students and postdocs are welcome to get involved.
