Last week Norfolk State University hosted their first ACTION-sponsored Capture the Flag training camps. They held a day camp from 9 am - 4 pm and a night camp from 6 pm - 9 pm, both at the campus Cybersecurity Complex.
The day camp targeted high school students. The week-long event brought seven high school teachers from Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and Newport News School Systems, and 25 high school students from Chesapeake, Hampton, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Smithfield and Suļ¬olk high schools to NSU for participation in CTF exercises as a hands-on method for learning tenets of cyber security.
The night camp was attended by 22 graduate and undergraduate students, five of whom were U.S. Veterans.
As NSU looks to running these camps again in 2026, we want to give a special thanks to Dr. Tonya Fields (NSU) and Dr. Jesse Versalone (Maryland Global Campus) for all their energy and dedication in making these training camps happen.
