As part of the ACTION AI Institute's plan for outreach, education, and broadening participation, we are now welcoming applications from both graduate and undergraduate students to participate in an 8-week research experience at one of the ACTION Institute campuses. Selected students will collaborate as teams with ACTION personnel on research related to Computer Security and Artificial Intelligence. Participants will receive stipends, provided by the National Science Foundation, including a housing allocation.
The planned dates for the Summer Research Program are 21 June 2026 - 15 August 2026; however, some programs may start earlier, due to their academic calendar. In-person participation is a strict requirement. In addition to research, students will join seminars on professional development and networking. Students will prepare and present a poster summarizing their research.
For a taste of what to expect, abstracts and posters from the 2024 ACTION Summer Experience are available online at this link. 2025 abstracts are also available from Rutgers and from UCSB. Applicants for summer 2026 will have the opportunity to choose which campuses they would like to experience.
Applications must be submitted online by February 1, 2026 for initial consideration.
In addition to our summer program, the ACTION Institute is also hosting a senior PhD student and postdoc exchange. Up to two fellows will be selected to spend up to six months at one of our ACTION partner campuses. Awardees are expected to maintain their employment and appointments at their host institution, but will receive stipends to help with housing and travel during their 6-month exchange. The start and end dates for the postdoc exchange will vary by the postdoc, and must be arranged upon acceptance of the fellowship.
