A Capture the Flag Competition (CTF) for High School and Undergraduate Students

With sponsorship from the ACTION Institute, the 2023 International Capture the Flag (iCTF) competition will incorporate themes around artificial intelligence and will have tracks for both high school students (iCTFhi) and undergraduate students (iCTFun). This novel security competition is being organized by Shellphish and the UCSB Women in Computer Science group.

UCSB Responsible ML Summit 2023

The ACTION Institute will co-sponsor UCSB's Center for Responsible Machine Learning 2023 Summit. 

Responsible Generative AI: Opportunities, Challenges and Ethics This year's summit will cover topics including: Ethical and Legal Issues in Copyright, Societal Impacts of Generative AI, Co-existing with AI: The Human Alignment Problem, as well as algorithmic solutions to these problems.

Column on new AI Institutes is now published in AI Magazine

A column, co-authored by Ashok Goel and Jim Donlon, and introducing the seven new NSF AI Institutes, is now published in AAAI's AI Magazine. The column provides a brief overview of each of the new institutes, as well as an overview of the AI Virtual Organization (AIVO), which was formed to strengthen the network of AI institutes and help them expand.
